It seems that the genetic progamme of millions of years is taking place in a few minutes. It is like a mescalin vision dreamt by Charles Darwin. Carol Morley Everyday Something 35mm 13'43" 2001 Everyday Something is complied from Carol's extensive newspaper cuttings, ranging from the ridiculous to the disturbing, recounting tales of obsessive bird watchers alongside abused wives, in an inventive blend of humour and drama.
The Queen's Monastery 35mm 6'4" 1998 Emma Calder Inspired by Leos Janacek's Sinfonietta animated short film, The Queen's Monastery is about a woman whose lover, a former acrobat, has returned to her from war a changed man. Using a highly individual watercolour technique the narrative explores themes of love, escapist fantasy, obsession and guilt.
Dad's Dead 35mm6'36" 2003 Chris Shepherd A compelling story of friendship and denial, told through a series of ghostly reminiscences and visual flashbacks of a young man's fragmented memories from the past.
Camouflage 35mm 7'56" 2001 Jonathan Hodgson Voiced visions of the voices in the head as multiform memories of parental paranoia get the heightened reality they require. Case-studies committed to celluloid. Sketches of schizophrenia that draw on reality and the time in the big house, behind the trees, too far from the road. Animated short film.
4 min at 2am 22 July 2003' 35mm. AK Dolven Dolven's film was made on the Lofoten islands in the far north of Norway. Although after midnight, the sun does not set on this spectacle of sublime natural beauty; rocks, sea and islands. Four androgenous figures observe the scene, as if transfixed.
