URBAN VISIONARIES II Curated by Maggie Ellis & Rose Cupit, Film London. UGC Cinema : 16th March. 8pm Film London will present a selection of work; an eclectic mix of fiction and fact, extending the often conventional and conformist film form. The works are from artists supported by Film London. The programme presents different ways of telling stories, using a variety of techniques and crossing genre boundaries. Artists will be present for a question and answer session after the screening.
SCREENING PROGRAMME: Amongst others, the selection of work will include: Fisticuffs Miranda Pennell A bloke walks into a pub… Six actors punch, kick and wrestle their way through the Wild West of an East End drinking establishment. Adrift Inger Lise Hansen A short film that combines time-lapse photography with stop-motion animation of the landscape. The work was filmed on the arctic island of Spitzbergen and in Trondheim, Norway. Continental Drift William Raban A land and sea-scape film drawn from the rich sources of imagery: the constantly changing mood of the sea; to the distinctly different shorelines of Kent and the Pas de Calais - 21 miles of water that defines both the 'island race' and hostility towards a wider integration within Europe. Exposure Peter Collis Exposed to the elements on an isolated stretch of beach, an assembly of material fragments fizz with marks, crackle, flake, warp and decay over time. Eden Simon Aeppli This portrait of Simon Aeppli's hometown forms the basis of a video that explores a run down half forgotten place. Focusing on Eden's residents, the work reveals a place filled with eccentricity, humour and beauty. Full programme will run for approximately 70 minutes. Episodes in the Life of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde Paul Bush A re-enactment of extracts from the 1941 Spencer Tracy version of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in which the bodies of the original actors are replaced in every single frame by a series of different actors. Cinematic psychosis, in which the narrative remains superficially intact. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
